Capsicum chinense · F1 super-hot
Weapon-Grade Anchor
The flagship. The anchor. The signature variety that gives Pepper Siege the right to operate a reserve tier at all. Armageddon is a superhot-class cultivar bred deliberately for flavor architecture rather than Scoville theater — a pepper that typically opens with a bright, almost pineapple sweetness before building into a full, durable burn. Flavor characteristics will vary by growing conditions and individual pod. The number isn't the point. The sequence is.

· I · Flavor Architecture
Entry. Body. Finish.
Phase I
Entry
First 3 seconds · Sweet
Bright, almost pineapple top note. Fresh and startlingly tropical. For a brief window, Armageddon genuinely tastes like fruit. This is the critical flavor moment that separates this variety from novelty super-hots — and it's the reason it runs the reserve tier. Anyone can grow heat. Few grow heat that opens with this.
Phase II
Body
3–10 seconds · Building
The fruit deepens into body. A concentrated, resinous chinense character — warm, complex, almost incense-like. The heat is arriving but hasn't landed yet. This phase is where the variety's chinense heritage shows most clearly. It's also the phase that survives fermentation best, which is why Armageddon mash becomes the foundation of the reserve-tier sauce.
Phase III
Finish
10+ seconds · Volcanic
The burn arrives and does not leave. Full-body capsaicin presence — sustained, durable, unmistakable. This isn't the fast-fade scorch of a low-quality super-hot. It's structural heat that works with the preceding flavor rather than against it. Flavor, then force. In that order. Always in that order.
· II · Cultivation
How it's grown.
Armageddon occupies Quadrant Q-04 (SE) in the Frederick plot — rows 13 through 16 — deliberately positioned apart from the other varieties as the "reserve plot." Southeast exposure captures both morning light and early-afternoon heat, which is what this chinense needs to develop its full flavor architecture. Under-exposed Armageddon plants produce heat without the pineapple entry; the top note comes from light.
This is the most demanding variety in the field. It starts indoors in February — earlier than the bells — because chinense species require a longer growing season to fully ripen. Transplant happens only after nighttime lows reliably stay above 60°F, usually late May in Maryland's Zone 7a. Cold exposure during early growth permanently reduces yield and heat profile.
Handling requires discipline. Mature pods must be harvested with gloves. The plant's oils accumulate on tools, on gloves, on clothing, on skin — and on the wooden stakes — and they migrate onto anything they touch. The harvest bin itself becomes "hot" after a few pickings. Dedicated equipment. Dedicated protocol. This is not a hobbyist cultivar.

Reserve Armageddon Sauce
The flagship product. Whole-pod ferment, aged two months, blended with a carefully tuned neutral vinegar and a touch of sea salt — nothing more. The ferment deepens the pineapple note, and the simple build lets the variety's own architecture stay intact. Small numbered runs only. This is what the Reserve tier exists for.

Signature Armageddon Powder
Slow-dehydrated whole pods, stone-milled. A small collector-tier tin — not for bulk use. A pinch rewrites a dish. The intended format is not a shaker; it's a ceremonial-feeling tin that makes you count grains. Reserve Ledger access where possible.

The extreme-heat corner of the range. Intended for hot-sauce challenge contexts, controlled-heat tasting events, and competitive culinary use. "The easiest thing in the pepper business is to make something that hurts. The hardest — the whole point — is to make something that hurts and is also worth coming back to. That's the only reason Armageddon gets to run the reserve tier at all."
